Isla San Cristobal

SanCristobal_edited.jpg

Isla San Cristobal is the most eastern island and has the second largest population of Isla Santa Cruz. San Cristobal holds the first settlement in the archipelago, chosen since it has the only large source of freshwater in the islands. Its namesake is St. Christopher, the patron saint of seafarers.

Why visit San Cristobal?

San Cristobal, while the last island visited, certainly isn't the least. It is absolutely teeming with life, with the animals listed below being incredibly common. The Galapagos Sea Lion is found anywhere where you can see water, often just lazing around on the piers and stealing space on benches, which gives visitors a chance to see them at a distance not many experience. It is a similar experience with the Sally Lightfoot Crabs, with large groups of them scampering around on the rocks along the port. The Magnificent Frigatebird is however slightly more remote, but this adds to the majesty as you watch it soar over the ocean and trees. All these animals provide an unforgettable experience and an excellent reason to visit San Cristobal.
