Distribution: Is not endemic to the Galapagos, and can be found along the South American coast

Facts

Act as scavengers and decomposers along the shoreline, since their generalist diet allows them to clean up almost anything, from large carcasses to even other Sally Lightfoot crabs.

They are incredibly agile, like their name, being able to run short distances in an instant, cling to the sides of structures, and jump between rocks.

Sally Lightfoot crabs also have gaps in their carapace which they can either use to shoot out water to dissuade predators or move over their gills to breathe.
